The Hot Fudge Sundae Diet…

I have two embarrassing confessions to make. One, I ate hot fudge sundaes every day for the last week and a half, and two, the hot fudge was originally a gift for another blogger but it never made it out the door. Oh wait, here’s one more: I bought the Fudge sauce last February so it sat around for a while, trying to make it to the post office, until I finally broke into it.

Why am I even sharing this humiliating story?

Because I’ve lost 2 lbs!

Hot fudge sundaes remind me of being a little girl and going out to dinner with my beloved grandparents, so clearly I was in a nostalgic mood when I went on my Sundae bender. We bought this sauce at the Vashon Country Store which is awesome because, for now, I can pretend that you can only get it by taking a ferry ride to a remote island. I think that’s best, don’t you?

In fact, Wax Orchards is a Seattle company, and I’m sure there’s plenty more where this came from.

So why wasn’t this a huge diet disaster?

First of all, my sundaes were small, always less than a cup of NO SUGAR ADDED vanilla ice cream. Secondly, this fudge sauce is fruit-sweetened:It’s their richest flavor so it didn’t take a whole lot to make a satisfying sundae, and, really, the nutritionals aren’t that bad (because it’s also Fat Free). In fact, you could use it and still fit into Belly Fat Cure guidelines if you’re careful.Of course I’m not advocating eating Hot Fudge Sundaes every night, but it’s nice to know that an indulgence doesn’t need to ruin all your efforts. I also think these kind of products are linked in to the whole natural sugar vs. processed sugar debate that’s going on right now, though I’m not a scientist so I can’t really elaborate on that.

I’m just glad the jar’s empty.

  1. Ya know, this doesn’t look bad in the slightest! I’m all about those awesome desserts that still fit into a healthy diet and balanced approach to weight and food.

I’ve been wanting to take the ferry to Vashon …

  3. wow, a 2 lb loss on a hot fudge sundae diet! way to go ;)
i’ve had brussel sprouts for dinner for too many nights to count in the past 2 weeks! just plain brussel sprouts with hot sauce. :D

Oh Andrea, if you haven’t been you really should go! My weensy complaint is that it’s not easy to see the waterfront houses from the roads, but it’s a nice getaway out of the city. And, yes, you should stop at the Country Store. :)

  5. Oh yum! I did not know about that fudge sauce. I feel a tug towards Vashon Island now – well maybe it’s just MORE of a tug, I LOVE that place! I think I might be able to accept this kind of diet….

  6. Lisa says:

Is that the only place to find the chocolate sauce? I’m trying to buy light chocolate sauce and can’t find it ANYWHERE!!!!

You can order it through their website, but I’ve banned myself from online ordering. Call them to see if they have a Portland retailer. It’s worth doing a little homework, trust me. (I just tried calling for you and no one picked up) If they say it’s only in Seattle I can pick you up a jar, and I swear you’ll get it. Unopened. :)

  8. Sign me up for that diet for sure!

Hi! I just saw your post on Faces of Beauty and thought I’d check out your blog! I love your writing style and I love sundaes, so I have a feeling we’ll get along :)

  10. Wow I love the looks of that hot fudge! Fat free and such a short ingredient list… The only issue for me would be the 22 servings per jar… :)

Beth, this sauce is really soooo rich that it would be hard to overdo it. I’m guessing it might be a little more tempting with some of the tamer flavors. I haven’t plowed through a whole bottle of anything in many years, but this was safe for a good long time. Pretty sure it was less than 22 though :)

I just checked out Wax Orchard’s site and I’m going to order the fruit sweetener. Sounds like it would be a nice change from honey, stevia, and maple. While I’m at it I should probably try that chocolate sauce.

    Congrats on the 2 pounds!

This may be my favorite post of yours ever. Love your honesty. Love your sense of humor.

One of my friends and I had a theory that you lose the most weight when you don’t care about losing it. Maybe you were soooo relaxed and loving your sundaes that you were like, eh, whatev… and those pounds just fell off? :)
