The Bestest Birthday…
I’m in shock and disbelief, but, it’s true, I’m
Holy crap – how did that happen?
We started the celebration Friday night when friends made us dinner. I have terrific friends who knew we were in need of comfort food so they made meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans. I should mention it was bacon-wrapped meatloaf! (Pictures didn’t do it justice) The important thing is we ended with a homemade flourless chocolate cake.
Super yummy! (Diet, what diet?)
The next day, we had a luncheon planned at my Aunt and Uncle’s house at Mason Lake. My Aunt can put together a spread like nobody’s business, but I didn’t want to put her out so I told her we’d all bring stuff. I made Mama Pea’s Vegan Ceviche and an Orzo salad.
There are a million ways to make the Orzo salad but this one had dried cherries, pumpkin seeds, and gorgonzola crumbles. The dressing is lemon juice and olive oil, salt and pepper. Then you toss is arugula leaves before serving. It’s delish.
My aunt was in charge of the deviled eggs (of which I ate many), and her super amazing Carrot Cake:
I think the secret to this cake is the rum-soaked raisins! I’ll take a pic of the leftover cake that’s in our fridge so you can see the inside. It was insanely good!
Having a nice leisurely lunch with friends and family with a view of the lake is probably one of my favorite ways to spend a birthday.
And being in close proximity to the beer shed doesn’t hurt.
You know I don’t really drink beer and was the DD, as usual, but I still love the beer shed with all my heart. Yes, that’s a turquoise refrigerator in there.

happy birthday! i love this post, what a blast. not that being 44 is a bad thing, but i was surprised as i thought you were 10 years younger. lots of love to you on your special day! xo
Happy Birthday Tiff! Everything looks divine, way to spread the birthday celebrations out over the course the weekend! Friends + food + two cakes = really the only way to party if you ask me!
That’s awesome because I secretly think I’m 34!
You are NOT 44. I don’t believe you.
Happy Birthday! That cake looks delicious!
Just wanted to say I just found your blog and love it
I understand not speaking to a parent and understand how it would be upsetting for them to be reading it behind your back. Only my husband knows the url of my blog but I doubt he reads it- if he did uh oh! lol
I’m sorry to hear about Derby- my pets are also my children and anytime I’ve lost them to illness or age I’ve felt the greatest loss- the only thing that helps me is the rainbow bridge and remembering the good times.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! That cake looks AWESOME!
I agree you don’t look anywhere near 44. And the fact that you are younger than me really angers me to no end
My caption in my head for the cake photo was “Someone likes turquoise!” DOn’t you love how I come up with captions for your posts? heee- and we do think alike! So the turquoise fridge isnt’ a surprise at all!
HAPPY BDAY!
What! No way you are 44! Happy belated birthday Tiffany and congratulations!
PS Our b-days are only 1 day apart. Neato! I did not just say “neato”. Eeek!
