Chai Chocolate Smoothie…
Pickings were slim for breakfast in the Carbzilla household this morning. Probably a good thing since I was recovering from a birthday cake hangover. I needed to keep it light. A little too much this:
leads to the need for a lot more of these instead:
Chai Chocolate Smoothie
1 c. unsweetened Almond Milk
1 heaping tsp. Green & Black’s Organic cocoa powder
1 small scoop Amazing Grass Green Superfood Chocolate powder
2 T s/f Torani Chai Tea syrup (I used less, and it wasn’t enough)
1 scoop Jay Robb Vanilla Whey Protein powder (I suppose if you had chocolate you could skip the Amazing Grass above)
Guar gum/Xanthan gum
5-6 ice cubes.
Vita that baby up!
I enjoyed the rest of my birthday and totally appreciated all the kind blog and Facebook wishes! Chris celebrated my birthday with a big house project: he ripped the old carpeting off our stairs so they went from this:
to this:
which would have been super great if a) the wood was anything worth sanding and staining, and b) it didn’t sound like a parade of Clydesdales every time we went up and down the stairs now. But all his hard work was not a waste at all because it allows me to paint all the way down to the stairs before we have new carpeting put in (which won’t be for a while, I suspect). For my part, I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and napped.
I wrapped up my birthday evening with frozen pizza, and the Emmy’s followed by The Cove (which I missed part of when I napped AGAIN). I’ve learned that any significant amount of carbs these days equals nap for me! Anyway, naps and all, it was a great birthday weekend.
Happy Monday!

oh yum. i love chai. that looks great. i am so happy you had a good bday weekend! i have been meaning to watch the cove but i think it’ll make me sad.
Man that smoothie looks amazing!!
Happy belated birthday! Just out of curiosity, what does the guar gum in the smoothie do?
Hi Iris – Both the Xanthan Gum and the Guar gum fluff up the smoothie. You have to be careful with the Xanthan and not add to much or it gets super gummy. Big props to Deb at Smoothie Girl for turning me on to the gums!
Ha Thanks for the props- I was going to compliment you on that smoothie- it looks DELISH!!!
Oh dear lordy thank goodness that your steps were carpeted when MOC fell down them- can you imagine if they were bare back then? I think they look pretty even just plain wood! Rustic and all.
Oh and the carrot cake looks heavenly. Yes, I’d be napping too.
Glad you had a nice weekend!
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm both things look good… but I’m partial to the cake just because I am in love with raisins.
